Although people commonly associate potatoes with fat, the fact of the matter is that potatoes are moderate in calories and non-fattening. Potatoes are in fact an excellent diet for eating healthy.
Potatoes are nutrient-dense, containing every nutrient the human body requires with the exception of Vitamin A. Raw Potatoes contain Vitamin C, but this is lost on cooking.
Potatoes are rich in iron and copper. Baked potato provides around 20 percent of the daily recommended dosage of Vitamin B6 that is essential for the development of brain cells and nervous stimulation activities. Potato also help lower cholesterol level which is good for the heart. Potatoes also contain flavanoids and kukoamine that lower blood pressure.
The problem with potatoes come when people start eating them in the form of greasy French fries or potato chips. Such snacks fired in oil and other unhealthy condimentas are actually bad for the body. The advantage that the potato brings is either lost by frying or gets overwhelmed by the unhealthy oil and condiments.
